Camaro #2 - Yay, problems starting
Well, car #1 is working good. Now, on to problematic car #2.
This car is a 1986 IROC V8 305 TBI?
Car started one morning, RPMs stayed pretty high, around 2400.. drove the car 1/4 mile down the road and heard spark knock, so I turned around and came home to check it out. Got into the driveway and shut her off, well... she ended up dieseling for a good 3-4 minutes. I tried to start her, nothing.
Noticed the automatic choke connection was off! slide that back on, no real difference.
I replaced spark plug wires, cap, rotor, checked the timing, fuel is getting to the engine. Cap looked good, just a couple deposits from yearly use on it, rotor was still good also, still replaced.
She turns over, yet denys to get started.
Next thing I am thinking of doing is replacing the spark plugs..
Possible that when the auto-choke connection slipped off, too much gas was getting to the engine, and possibly helped foul the plugs?
Or could it be something else?
Btw, ignition is fine, all lights come on when turning the key.

Well did u check ur spark plugs? Since you say that the engine is getting fuel that rules out any problems with fuel pumps and such.. did you try to start the car alone? What im tryin to say is maybe get a friend to try and control the acceleration while u turn the key or vise versa? I dunno man sorry i wasnt of much help.

ignition is fine so im guessing you tested for spark already.. how were you able to check timing with the car not running? im a little confused there.. whats the fuel pressure reading at? give us some info to work with and i bet u'll have her up n runnin in no time!

Waahhh! My bad!
I was talking to my G/F about getting our phone bill fixed, pulling up our bank statement, and talking to my buddy here about the flooring we put in, so it was all garbled.
what DID get replaced - Plug wires, rotor, cap.
Gas IS flowing.
I have not pulled the plugs, they are in such a PITA place I was curious if it's either the plugs that could be causing it, or the coil.
Btw Syxx613, it helps, so thanks much.
My guess is that the plugs are fouled from excess gas due to the choke.

So is this an 86 IROC, or is it TBI?
My guess is that it's an 86 IROC with a carb, since it seems to have a choke.
Yes I also believe the plugs are probably fouled. Start with a fresh set.

you said you've replaced some ignition related components but have you verified that you do in fact have spark when cranking?

Taking a break from the hot **** sun outside =)
I'll check to make sure there is spark in 2 minutes. In fact, doing it now.
RB - after checking around, 86 Roc w/ Carb.
brb in 10 minutes to check for spark
100% sure about my car, just not hers.

yup lol east coast here, it's nasty hot in the sun
well, (ahem) after reconnecting a few connectors that i left off lol the car is turning over, and "catching" like it's about to start, yet doesn't. and the negative/ground is getting MAD hot. I didn't cross any connections. Wtf gives.
lololololol my g/f said she wants a diesel Vortec engine put in... death rocket lmfao.

I would say that it is a good chance that the plugs are wet fouled. If you are getting spark at the wires and fuel then im most positive its the plugs, Because somthing similer happened to me once.

so did ya check for spark? if ya dont have a spark tester simply pull off a wire stick it on a screw driver ( with a plastic or insulated handle) and hold it with a very small gap over somethin metal like the rad support and have someone crank and see if ya get a spark.. if ya do its almost defently your plugs.. have ya tried startin it with ether? everytime i've ever flooded the **** outa an engine startin fluid always does it for me.. just have someone crank it with the pedal to the floor while sprayin into the carb keep the rpms up for a while to clear it out.. if that works i'd still probably replace the plugs.. good luck.. try not to sweat 2 much

IO went ahead and got some new spark plugs for her car. *** knows when they were replaced before she got it. I'll have to put them in tomorrow, ran out of daylight, and my garage is unpaved atm.
The green connector is a diagnostic connector that's attached to the carb. I don't think it has any use other than just a connection point for a diagnostic scanner of some kind.
