ticking sound and low oil pressure
at start up with 10w40 oil i have 60 psi of oil pressure and a tickign sound, and its not an exhaust leak i know that for sure. after the car is fully warmed up and all in p or n its got about 20-35 psi but in gear itll go down to about 10 psi. as you accelerate the oiil pressure goes up but not as rapidly as i think it should. i have hydraulic lifters now and i race and my rpms through the traps are liek 6500 rpms the lifters are the general basic lifters that crane supplies with their camshafts (powermax cam). my question is did i sink a lifter? and also i am going to a solid camshaft soon so i jsut want to know your thoughts on my oil problem. thanks

'92,
That oil pressure is more than adequate. The problem is that if you are relying on the dash gauge for an accurate indicatiuon, you might not be getting it. Crane lifters are just fine. You may have an oil flow (not pressure) issue, or may have a valve lash adjustment issue. Can you isolate the noise to a particular side of the engine?

remove the valve cover, see if the corrosponding valve opens and closes properly with the engine running.. if not i'd say lifter, may just be a simple valve adjustment though

i recomend u check the exhaust manifold (headers) bolts for tightness and the gaskets for leaks. this past month ive been tracking down a ticking noise that i thought was my valves but really it was a small chunk of gasket that was actualy blown off on the no.8 exhaust port. after i changed the gasket the ticking was totaly gone and i had a nicely running engine again.

if one or a few of my rockers were out of adjustment would that make for a low oil pressure? yeah no exhaust leaks i know that for sure.
