Power quick! Posted here because its general
I need some power quick!. I'm LOW on cash, but, well theres this import thats going to be the FIRST FAST one, and it will take myn if I dont do anything about it. One of his friends is going to help him build his 93 prelude up. (his buddies dad is mechanic)
He plans on:
Full exhaust
Fuel rail
Fuel injectors
cam and cam gears
throttle body
intake manifold
and the works
and after that he wants a turbo.
Should I keep this one stock, and save up for something to build on, or build this one. Hmmmm this is so damn hard, I don't want to lose to the ****, but I don't want to ruin my H.O. I love the car, but idk, someone give advice.

there is a 99.9% chance he will never do any of thoes things other then the exhaust and intake.(not intake manifold)
but if he ever does, all you have to do is spray...
given the same street/track and tires, you should pull off the line. and if you juice the car, you probly will beat him without a prob.
but thats kinda cheating in my opinion...
i personally would build a nice 350/383/400/LT1 or whatever, and just whomp him without trying.
and that pic above is kinda right... just because you're faster then someone else, does not mean you're fast..
(and anyone that sprays a motor and still runs 13s is really really slow.)

He'll need a good 75 HP to get close to you. I don't see that in his list, until he gets to the turbo; and at that point, he's almost a serious player rather than just some poser tool like the ones with a fart pipe and a stupid sheet-metal wing are.
Nod approvingly, and move on, don't let a bunch of horse dung from some r¡cer ruffle your feathers.

Hmmmm, ya maybe yall are right, but other than this LS1 SS, and maybe one or two other domestics, I'm sure I am the fastest one there, and I'd liek to keep it that way.
There is a NICE long block LT1 I might go for.

North Carolina. Few muscle cars. I'm talking school parking lot. In my small town, I wouldn't be top 10 or 20, but I would bet I would easily be in top 30 that would run their cars (not the typical 50 year old man in a Corvette.) In the parking lot, its ****. A couple muscle cars, some fake 5.0 mustangs, and ****.

Dude slap that edelbrocke intake you have on it. and get some edelbrocke headers and a full exhaust ditch the cat. Then get a good ring gear and pinion(3.42-3.73). DO as much weight reduction as possible and get some slicks .Unless he gets the turbo he shouldnt be able to touch you. Browse classifieds and go to swop meets if you are on a tight budget.Good luck.

don't want to ruin my h.o.? that car isn't exactly collectable in the way of camaro's and driving around a stock third gen is more like jogging with a special olympian. it's propper and amusing, but doesn't get you anywhere. no reason to have waited for your friend to build his ride up before doing something in the first place. honda or not, your not much of a challenge with a 305 h.o. firebird in the first place.
for IROCaholic: do you really think slicks are needed on something that slow?

Hmmm, if its not collectable,......hmmmmm. What if I turboed myn long enough to get something bigger? I mean a small amount off boost, nothing major and few other parts. Then put 305 heads on my H.O. then transfer them to my 350 with 305 heads to get some compression, or wait, that wouldnt be a good idea with a turbo
. IDK he topped out at about 120 some, so I'm good there.

It will probably cost you around $1000, which doesnt seem like alot of money to some but when your on a budget and paying for school etc. thats alot of money. But like I said go to swap meets and browse through classifieds, and you can get it done I found my edelbrocke headers for $150 unused and my fat back tires for $20 just going to a swap meet.all in all I have shaved like .5 seconds off my quarter mile time, and I have only spent like $300.Good luck man
A PROPERLY set up turbo would run you a bit of money, and there's always the risk of blowing the engine without the proper setup (too much boost, parts too old, etc. etc.) Check the power adder section for better answers to that, though.
Simple thing will always help, the proper tune, which always includes a new fuel filter (you'd be surprised how much they can hurt power), K&N or other equally high-flowing air filter, a better exhaust system definately helps these cars and their cheeselog manifolds. The most economical way for you to get a really fast car would be to simply buy a 350, but if you don't have the budget for that right now it can always wait. Unfortunately, not much you can buy for a 305 will transfer over very well to a 350.
http://www.popularhotrodding.com/eng...05em_turbo_bb/ now THAT is a proper turbo setup.

I wouldn't worry about it too much... with all that plastic he probably put on his car's body, he probably weighs about the same as your Z28.. and half the torque or less.
You have (at least) 200hp, 250ft-lbs, 3.73 gears and a 5 speed.
He has (probably) XXXhp at 1,000,000 rpm, 15ft-lbs, 4.10 gears (because o no torque) and a 5 speed geared more for gas mileage than going fast.
