oil pressure problem

Whem I start my car the oil pressure is at 60 psi. After the engine warms up to 160 or over the pressure drops to 30-15 psi,the warmer the engine gets lower it goes. All this drop is at idle when I start driving as soon as the rpms go over 2000 the pressure goes back up to 55-60 psi.Whats the problem? The oil pressure sending unit is new so thats not the problem. What else?

E,

What viscosity oil are you using and at what ambient temperature?

What is the total engine mileage?

What kind of oil filter are you using?

just a WAG but i'd say your nukbers aren't bad. i've saw differant things listed in differant books ,60psi@2500rpm, or 10 psi for so many rpms. lot depends on oil, age and clearances in engine, and the air temp as vader pointed out.

I use 10w40,it has 98,000 miles, and the air temp dos not matter it drops as soon as the engine warms up past 150*.I also use a bosch oil filter.I just changed the oil to 20w50 now pressure will only go down to 30psi instead of 15psi.

I wouldn't worry much about the drop. Most small block chevy's drop quite a bit between cruising rpm's and idle. 15 psi at idle will lubricate the engine just fine.

10 psi per 1000 rpm is a good rule of thumb for a minimum. Your numbers look good.
