Slick Tubes and Rim Screws

If you run with a tube in your slicks, do you have to use rims screws? I have heard if you do not use rim screws then the tube could tear at the valve stem. Any help on this subject would be appreciated.

I ran a Dirt stock car with tubes and would have the valve stem pull through. I think a drag car would spin the tire on the rim even worse.
