I'm back and got a new car but it's broken
Hi everyone...I'm FINALLY back. Anyways...
I've got a new '89 5.7L IROC-Z and it had an oil leak somewhere on the upper back of the engine. I had thought it was the distributor seal, so today I replaced it. I thought I put the distributor back in the exact way it came out, and matched up my lines for the rotor's relationship to the base plate. Now the car is running like TOTAL crap. It is ok until it gets to temperature, then it's just a friggin joke. It studders, stammers, stalls, and backfires. Did I jack up putting the distributor back in? My timing light broke too, so I was using what I remembered was the position of the distributor and going from there. Does it sound like timing here?

Oh yeah, sounds like timing to me. Setting it back to the correct timing will no doubt cure your blues. Got all the vacuum lines back on too?

Looks like I did put that distributor back in a couple teeth off. This was my first real time taking the system apart and putting it back together, so I guess ignorance was inevitable. Anywas, I realigned the distributor with the number 1 cylinder and set the timing to 0* Then I went and got a new timing light. She ran rough, so I advanced it more and more. Now she's sitting at about 11* total advance, and DAMN it runs better than ever. It really rocks out of the hole now. Thanks for the help rustydawg!
