Which one??
Which one??
This is my 1st post and I'm sure glad I found you guys. I have decided to start a "project" car that I plan to build with my 14 year old son. There are 2 cars available. One is a 1984 z-28 and it is rough! Body is good, interior, top gaskets, engine are kaput. I bought this car for 500 dollars. It in the driveway much to my wifes dismay. The second car is an 86 IROC with TPI. This car runs, has new computer, decent interior and bad paint with minor body work needed. I can get this car for 2500.
Which one? Carbed or TPI? I want to install a 350 in whichever vehicle I choose.
Thanks for any advice(and reasons).
Thanks, Billy

Welcome aboard.
Neither sounds like too good of a deal. You should be able to find one in decent shape for $2500.
But, "projects" are allowed to defy reason. What you need to decide is what you want to do with the finished product. TPI makes a good daily driver. Existing engine, induction, interior condition, etc., aren't as critical for a weekend warrior.

Welcome , I am doing the same thing w/ my little brother so I know where your coming from ,but we lucked out with the car I got him. Anyway , I would go with the Iroc becuase its TPI and youll get more bang for your buck with that. The only problem is that it is somewhat difficult to swap a 350 in for the tuned port injection, but there are many guys here who have done it . If you want the easiest swap go with the 84 Z it will be easier all you have to do is swap the motors and your done you dont have to worry about the computer, but youll get worse gas mileage and a little worse performence than with the TPI . Or you could keep the 305 in that , they perform better than you would think I have two friends who are running mid 13's w/ there 305 TPI's and they havent even changed the heads or cam yet.Good Luck

The paint is from the vn nuys plant so it blows. I figure I'm gonna paint whichever one I build. Thanks for the replies keep'em comin.
TPI swap to the 350 is difficult? I was told it was a straight swap. what's involved?

Whoops , for some reason I was thinking about TBI on the swap thing (dont know how I could get those 2 confused) Yeah the swap from 305 tpi to 350tpi is pretty straight forward , I dont think you have to modify anything on the computer sorry about that , it was late when I posted that.Good Luck
