You'll have to drop the transmission to do it. If you do, you look for a aluminium adapter that fits around the crank and it's held in with 4 bolts. The two piece wont have that "adapter".

Shouldn't you be able to tell by the location of the oil dipstick? Driver's side means two piece, while pass. side means one piece. Or maybe that is change made some other time, mid seventies sounds familiar for some reason. Sorry if i'm wrong.

No, the driver and passenger side dipstick wont tell you.

Check where the oil pan meets up to the block in the back, if there is an aluminum housing there just above the pan, then its one piece. You should be able to see it without taking the inspection cover off, but you may have to take it off in which case it will be easy to tell which it is.

Get the casting number off the side of the block and look it up.

Yep.

Its the shiny silver piece all the way on the right. If its a 2 piece rear seal, you wont see that part there.

Thanks everyone! Madmax that picture was perfect. I have that so I guess mine is a 1 pc which is perfect. That means the T56 flywheel I have should work.
