oil press. dropped, oil spewing out wtf?

OK... So im under the hood messing with my timing and I revved my motor a bit and my buddy in the car said my oil press. just dropped to zero (mechanical gauge) and I see a bit of oil all over around my exhaust manifold, valve cover and around the p/s pump, so I immediately shut off the motor, and I cant seem to find out wtf is going on, but I have enough oil... i'm guessing my oil pump died? but how could that explain for oil being spewed out (which I can't figure out where) help please!

revved my motor a bit
Define "a bit".

Where is the oil coming from? Any unusual noises?

Oil pumps basically never "die". Doesn't happen. If you have no oil pressure after "revving the motor a bit", you probably spun a bearing.

Reminds me of a guy that used to live near me back in the 70s.... he had a Chrysler full-size car of some sort; he would play around with it under the hood, then he'd stand there next to the car and just wing the throttle over and over, like that was somehow useful or something.... we'd hear "bwaaaaaahhhhhpppp" like 20 or 30 times; after awhile he'd finally satisfy himself I guess and shut it off and go inside; well, one day he was doing that, we hear ""bwaaaahhhhh-clank-clack-clank-clank", looked over to see a large cloud of smoke and dripping fluid. Needless to say he got another car a couple of days later. But he abused that one the same way too, he probably eventually blew it up as well.

Not a wise thing to do to a car.

a bit meaning around 2500 or 3k rpm, nothing crazy, no unusual noises... didn't seem like much oil, maybe 6 floz or so... im gonna drain the pan an see if that tells me anything, I cant tell exactly where the oil is coming from but it is in that general area (drivers side, around the manifold area)

you say you have a mechanical gauge. did you check to make sure the line that goes to it didnt rupture or burst.
seems to me that would cause the problem you described. oil on the manafold, oil gauge reading 0.

Nice call, Dragon91RS. I originally was thinking he lost the oil pump feed but your guess makes alot more sense.

Well I finally got a chance to look at it in daylight and sure enough, the stupid cheap nylon line ruptured Is that copper line stuff they have at the auto parts stores good?

Glad it was that non-tramuatic...

Copper is worse than nylon, it will crack from the vibration.

Go to a hydraulics place and see what they suggest. I believe they have some real heavy-duty polyethylene stuff or some such.
