My Formula is starved for fuel
My Formula is starved for fuel
It died on I-495 offramp this afternoon. Going down the highway I noticed that it seemed like it wasn't getting enough gas. When I punched it or was going 70-80mph it seemed ok, but the second I let off the gas, it started starving, and eventually fizzled, putted out, and wouldn't restart. After letting it sit for an hour, I managed to restart it and move it a little closer to home, but then it died again and I just had it towed.
I'm guessing it's a bad fuel pump. Does that sound right? And if it is the fuel pump, should I replace it with a stock pump and filter, or should I upgrade to something aftermarket? Thanks.

if you're stock and plan on staying that way, or with few mods i'd keep the stock set up. you should have it tested befroe you start to replace it considering all the work involved.

Yeah, the motor is stock now (aside from a few minor mods -- SLP cold air kit, MSD ignition). I'm putting in a new exhaust and headers soon, too. Don't know if that really matters, though.
As for the pump, I can hear it priming, and there are no engine codes, so I'm thinking it might just be the relay, or maybe the fuel filter. I have no idea. I was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction. How can I test the pump w/o taking it out?
Lastly, seeing how the pump is in the tank and all, should I have my exhaust work done at the same time? Looks like the exhaust is gonna have to come out to drop that tank anyway...
