Yesterday was a sad day for my formula.

I live in Miami, and yesterday there was massive flooding everywhere. Flooding that rised above your doors. That day I was trying to get home, and on the way my car died (the alternator fried). That last puddle just killed me. I then had some help and towed it to my house. Today, I went out to see if something really bad had happened to the engine. I pulled out the dip stick and saw that something indeed happened. WATER IS IN MY ENGINE. The dip stick had this coffee color that scared the **** out of me. Now I'm depressed and don't know what to do. If anyone can give me some insight, it would be much appreciated. I think I'm going crazy!

Change the oil & filter. Run it for a little while; if it looks that way again, change it again. Chances are there's no permanent harm done.

also,,,check the air filter housing for water, and to be safe, remove all the plugs and crank the engine. thatt way if any water is in the cylinders or in the intake tract, you won't bend things.

You should probably shoot a little WD40 into the cylinders when you take your plugs out. I managed to avoid the floods by driving my company delivery truck =)

Another place to check for water is trans, if it got in the engine it could have easily gotten into it also.

I was looking at the weaher channel the other night and was looking to see if I saw anyone's f-body trying to drive through that mess...sorry to hear about your car. But follow all the previous recommendations and it may be ok.

We got a lot of rain from the last hurricane that came in up here on the panhandle and Tallahassee was flooded everywhere and my house (in the country) had more water than me, my dad or my grandfathers had ever seen. I had to go help a buddy of mine get his AC out off the ground b/c his house was surrounded by water. It definetly sucked, we needed the rain but not that much that quick.

Well everyone, I followed all of the directions given to me and the motor just won't crank. It tried to turnover once, but it just made this grinding sound and then the next time I tried it the starter just wen't "clunk" like it couldn't move the flywheel. Oh well, thanks for your info. I guess I'm going to open it up to see what happened. I don't know too much about the inside of an engine, so if anyone can tell me what they think happened that would be helpful. Thanks.

I don't think you neccesarily have internal engine problems. You need to repair the starting system before you take the engine apart. The starter is probably fried from filling with water.

i'm sure nuthing internally was hurt in your motor...

if it vapor locked from the water in the oil turning to steam, it would have been an immediate hault, PLUS, that would only happen if ur pcv was operating im properly. anyhow, anything electrical is to be questioned at this point- so ur moving along the path! dont give up yet- just think about the rest of the car.

Oh and just to add, when I took out the plugs, water came out, gushing onto my head. The engine also made a grinding noise when I tries to start it.

that is NOT good bishop. Remember, water doesnt like to compress like air and gasoline, ive heard of people bending and breaking connecting rods this way. When that piston comes up something has to give and grinding sounds from your motor is definately not good, give me a call when you read this

I had a buddy who took his 86 trans am (tpi) through a heavily flooded area, and his motor was toast from that point on, I hope this is not the case for you.. When he took it to the shop to be "fixed", his mechanic said that when he pulled the plugs, gallons of water came out, he went on to say that with tpi, its different then a carb in that situation cause the tpi just keeps pumping the water into the motor, where i carb would have stopped when the motor stalled. Any way he ended up getting a new motor, and I dont think he'll ever go through questionable puddles again.. Dude I hope your motor is ok, I just thought Id share some info that I had gotten... Hang in there and try anything you can to free that motor up..

Well, I took off the starter and had it tested. It works fine, it just can't turn the flywheel. Thanks for all of your ideas.
