cam theory question
Will someone give me the short course on cam theory? I don't comprehend all the numbers now.

Cam theory is a very lengthy topic. It would take hours to write an article to do it justice. Here is a string where I touched cam theory a wee bit in a reply to another question.

I concur with the others comments. If I remember, Comp Cams http://www.compcams.com/valvtim1.html have (or use to) have an excellent web site explaining all the technical terms (LSA, duration, lift, overlap) and how they work in controlling the valve train.
However, when all the theory in the world doesn't match to others experiences with a particular cam. What often looks good on paper, often fails in practice. That is why so many racers are so secretive about the specifications of their cams when they don't have limitations on it. A subtle variation in the duration, lift, lsa, actual point of opening and closing, and specific profile of the cam often is what separates the winners from the losers. No book or theory will help you there.

First one is a primer, next one a gen. overview, and the third a nice general engine overview by A/C Delco.
