Tach Problem

I have an 84 Camaro with the LG4 carbed motor. I just took out the tach and put in one from a later model IROC with the 5500 red line. I noticed that the IROC tach seems to be real sloppy. The motion on accelleration is not very smooth, and when I decelerate, the needle just drops in a strange way. My old tach worked just fine. What can I do to fix this? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

sure you have all your eletric connections tight? factory tachs aren't known for being the best pieces.

you can use your original tach and swap face plates. use a dremel tool to grind the rivets off the back then epoxy it in on. The pointer will just pull straight off, be careful, they are a bit delicate.
