where's the starter?

well this morning before going to work, i went to start up my car. my finger slipped a little and then came the most horrible noise ever... kccccccccckkkkkkkgggggkkkkkkkkkkkkgkgkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. it kind of sounded like what it would sound like itf you tried turning the key even after the car was already on. so, when i finally begged for a ride to work from someone, everyone at work said it was the starter. now, my question is, where is the starter located, and what's the best way to get at it.

It's bolted to the passanger side of the block in front of the tranny. You should see it right next to the pipe comming off the exhuast manifold. If it is cracked, snap a pic. I would like to see a pic of a starter that actually cracked.
