the starter is unbolted and the wires are off, but i can't get it out... the y-pipe seems to be in the way... is there any way to get it off with out taking the y-pipe off???

Yes.

Since you have the LG4 with the real little Y-pipe, it should come right out easily. Position it with the brush end upward and the nose down, I think it's with the solenoid toward the block, it'll slip right through there.

that's what i've been trying to do, and it won't come through... the part where the wire goes keeps getting stuck on the frame (i think that's what it is). i've been fighting to get this thing out for about 2 and half hours.... i think i'm just going to saw off the y-pipe... this is such a pain

Don't do that.

It comes out, believe it, your car is just like all the rest of these, when you get it the right way, it will fall right out (and land on your face most likely, if your luck is like mine)

My y-pipe was bent at some point and left me no clearance to get my starter out. I had to drop the y-pipe. Took about 5 minutes but I broke 2 manifold studs during it and really caused myself a headache...

Aside from the starter flying out and smacking me on my dome.
