Welcome to thirdgen.org.

Your 305 would have come with 58cc combustion chambers.

In the future you can go to www.mortec.com

The casting number for the heads is on top, under the valve covers.

The last three numbers of the casting number for the block can be found on either side just behind the motor mounts.

On a block that's older than 1986, the casting number is also on the back of the block where the trans bolts to the engine, on the driver's side.

On an '86 and newer block, it'll be on the passanger side. Although on the driver's side there will be either a 5.0L (305) or a 5.7L (350).

Peak through between the firewall and the engine. You may have to wash some crud off the numbers in order to read them.
