Car dies

I have an 86 Camaro with a 305 (TPI)
If I'm at a stop light and I give it a little gas to creep forward it stalls same thing when in reverse give a little gas for about 3 seconds it stalls. Was wondering if anyone else has this problem, and how to fix it.

Gib,

It sounds like you have the common hesitation at throttle tip-in problem.

Verify the correct TPS voltage, IAC operation, and minimum idle air position of the throttle plates.

If a clean IAC doesn't help the problem, you might have a problem with the original ECM PROM. GM issued a TSB on the PROM porgramming in 1986 TPIs. I replaced mine with the replacement part and have not been sorry. In addition to some other issues, the target idle is raised from 600 to 650 RPM. TCC lockup points are raised, fuel curves are enriched slightly, and some sensor input ranges are made more liberal to avoid some nuisance error codes.

Check the TSB at NHTSA.gov. Enter you vehicle-specific data and read the results.
