Gimme a brake......
I was driving down the road for the first time with my car fixed, and i noticed a sqeaking noise coming from the tires. When I applied the brakes, the squeaking noise went away. I later put the car on jackstands, and took the wheels off. THE BRAKE PADS WERE ONLY 1/4" THICK!!!! I need serious pads soon! I wanna know how long do they take to install them? My dad said about 3 hours. My friends dad said 30 minutes. If the front are bad, do the rear drums need to be fixed too?

A blind monkey can put pads on a car in an hour. I would only replace the rears if it needs it. I would adjust the rears, if you have drums, when you pull it all apart to inspect it. You are going to inspect it all before you dive into the rear shoes, right?
Get some high friction pads to make your car stop better, now's the time...

Drums take longer, but you should be able to do the whole job in a few hours. Some of those springs suck. Also disconnecting the parking brake mechanism can be tedious, you'll see what I mean...

A blind monkey huh? I think im a step up from a blind monkey, but when it comes to brakes, not by much. Bell tire is gonna charge me $160 for brake replacement, front and rear. Is it worth it? or is it cheaper to do it myself?

Its cheaper by a long shot to do it yourself. Its cheaper to do just about everything yourself. If you don't feel comfortable doing your own brakes than don't do it.
I think $160 for front and rear is cheap. My shop charges $100 for just the fronts...

Well, I think I might end up doing them myself. I'll talk to my buddies dad who can do em in a half hour, and he might be able to do drums too. If he cant, i know another guy who can do drums.

Front disc are really easy. Won't take long at all I am guessing a 1/2 hour. The drums are a whole other story nothing but fun back there

70% or more of your braking force is handled by the front brakes. Therefore they wear quicker. Point is you may not have to do the rears. Check 'em out.

Oh, by the way, when I drive the car, I hear this very annoying squeaking noise. Is that noise from the front brakes?

Does it squeak while the brakes are being pressed? If so, then yes those are your squeak tabs hitting the rotor letting you know it's time for new pads.

get a breaker bar if u dont have one. u dont HAVE to have one, but trust me, u will save yourself a wwwhhoolleee lot of time, plus u will increase the life span of your ratchet because u wont have to kick it to get the bolts off
i got one at autozone for 20 bucks. and i use it whenever i can so its a really good investment.
im gonna give :hail: :hail: :hail: to the inventor of the breaker bar
o, just wondering, y dont u wanna change the rears too?

I dont know, I guess its just an extra hassle. I'll check them, and if they're good, I will let them be, but if they are bad, I might just take em into belle tire.
