Will removing my cat hurt my car?
Mkos,
The only potential problems I can forsee would be the obvious inability to pass a visual emissions inspection and possibly that the reduction in exhaust pressure could contribute to a nuisance Code '32' for EGR failure at highway cruising speeds. This would only be the case if you have a positive backpressure EGR valve, and even that may not cause the problem if you're lucky. If you're in an area that does not currently require emissions inspections, you shoudln't have a problem with that, but I'd advise saving all of the removed parts just in case. Just throw them in a box in the attic of the garage so they are available when you need them. If you still have the vehicle when the air police finally come to your area (not IF, but WHEN) you won't have to scrounge for replacements.

We have heavy emissions here, but i am getting collector plates for my car next year, so that means no E-Chek or anything else.

Haven't had one on my '89 IROC for 2 years. Have yet to get a trouble code from it. Fortunately, we don't have emissions inspections here in Indiana (yet).
Car was quicker after I removed it, but that could be due to how old the cat was and it's condition (didn't really check it to see if it was bad).
