WTF!!! Engine's gone mad!!!

OK... Here's the deal. Engine overheated bad last night to the point where it evaporated off 1/3 of the coolant. Fan doesn't seem to spin. Replaced the thermostat (195), which seems to have it running a bit cooler. Replaced the fan motor (electric), that still doesn't spin, so I'm thinking the switch... I have no idea where the wires are going, but I'll find them eventually...

What's the deal here? Any help from the mechanical geniuses here?

The switch is in the pass side head, sort of between the #6 and #8 plugs. The easiest place in the whole car to get to.

There is also a relay, between the brake booster and the fender. There are a couple of things there. The fan relay has 2 very large wires and either 1 or 2 small ones going to it.

If the fan comes on when the A/C switch is in A/C, then you need the temp switch; if it doesn't you probably need the relay.

What RB said plus see if the fan turns freely
and not hanging up on shroud. On my 1991 RS (when I changed out the fan motor), you have to get the shroud back in the groove just right or when you go to tighten up the 4 bolts that holds the shroud on, the fan may come in contact with the shroud enough to keep the fan from turning. The fan relay on my car is located on the firewall drivers side.

You might consider running a 180 thermostat which is what I run plus a manual switch. Some people run even lower temps than that. 195 is stock.

I'm currently battling with my fan circuit also. Could it be that the same relay is screwed up on my car??? I seem to have the same symtoms i.e. ... Fan does'nt start whatsoever and still wont run with the AC on. I replaced the switch in the side of the block twice. The only way the fan will run is if I ground the wire that goes to that switch to the fender or something, and then the fan will run whenever the ignition switch is in the on position. I posted earlier on this, but didn't get many responses. Anyone...we both need HELP!!!!!
