Engine problems, HELP!

Hi, I'm new to this board and this is a long story:

I have a 92 Formula, 305, engine type F with the optional performance package (5500 redline, duel cats, 5 speed). The EGR system has been bypassed.

It has always thrown the code for the EGR system, and then another code that is either the knock sensor (replaced), the ETS, also replaced (sensor under distributor cap, don't remember what it does), or the ECM.

It has always been a little funny...sometimes really strong, and other times pretty weak. I'd guess about a 50-75 hp difference.
Anyway, someone had bypassed the fan, switch so that it comes on automatically with a fusable link. The link burned out, and I stupididly replaced it with a normal wire. A little while later, it ran roughly until it warmed up, then it ran "normal"...sometimes strong, sometimes weak. It ran like this for about a year, and then it started running really rough at random times. It would just switch into rough mode, and then back.

Eventually it wouldn't even start. I'd try to start it until the battery was low. I had a friend jump it, and it would start right up. When I replaced the battery, it started and ran perfectly for a few weeks, then it ran like **** again. Now it won't start unless jumper cables are on it event thought the batter is good and new.

I think i've burned out something somewhere....there's a voltage problem across some sensor or something. Could I have fried parts of my ECM? I just want to get the thing running decently, so I can sell it for a decent price.

I appreciate any help.

92,

Welcome Aboard!

Your description sounds like you have a charging system problem. Do you have a voltmeter at your disposal (other than the dash instrument)?

You are also describing what may be related problems with the ignition and possibly injection, but the charging system is your first priority.
