timing for my 88
This is just a newbie question, but how do I adjust the timing on my 88 roc. I got the results from my smog check is said my timing was a 7*, I thought it should be at 10*?
Thanks for any light you can shed

Base timing on an LB9 engine should be 6° BTC. If they measured 7°, that's fine. If you want it at something different, adjust it.
Check the base timing with a timing light. Follow the instructions on the VECI label under the hood to bypass the ESC system. In your case, you'll probably have to disconnect the single tan/white wire along the firewall to bypass the ESC system. Connect the timing light and check the setting. To adjust it, loosen the distributor hold down clamp bolt slightly, start the engine, then loosen the bolt more until you can just barely turn the distributor. Turn the distributor slightly while monitoring the timing marks. Adjust the timing to the specification listed on the label, or wherever you want it to be. After you tighten the distributor hold down bolt, check the base timing again. Readjust as necessary, reconnect the EST bypass connector, and put your toys away. Project complete.
