WOW!!! What's going on here?????

Just had new O2 sensor put in car. Have been getting 20 mpg pretty steady since I got the last November. Filled up just before putting the new O2 sensor in. Went 193 miles and decided to fill it up 'cause I was still showing 3/4 of a tank and wanted to check the mileage. only took 6.7 gallons. THAT'S 28.8 MILES TO THE GALLON. Can that be right? My driving has not change, still about 70% highway and 30% city.

What is goin' on here? It will be very interesting to see what happens with the next tank.

Bill

Better take it to the dealer and find out what's wrong with it.

My late little brother actually had some moron do that to him when he was writing service at Buick.... this Buick owner drives up in his brand-new 95 or so Roadmaster, with his window sticker, demanding to know why he's getting 32.2 miles to the gallon when the window sticker plainly states that it's supposed to get 28 miles to the gallon, please service his car. Jay thought it was a joke at first, but no, the guy was serious.

Sounds like your car is running OK.

That's not enough miles/gallons to accurately gauge your fuel economy. I would wait for a whole tank or two before determining if your mileage has improved or not.

Lol, Id have to wake up and hop in a cold shower if that happend to me.

Had one customer on the oposite side that brought a cadilac in running horrible re-build carb did a tune up and it ran great. He came back in 3 hours latter mad as hell claiming his car now runs 100% better but gets .1% less MPG now and wants the problem fixed. Seen him latter at the gas station beating his caddy with a baseball bat.

As far as the bettter fuel economy, It is possible that your O2 sensor was really fubard or the new one is constantly reading rich leaning out the mixture. I wouldent worry about it unless theres a check engine light on or driveablity goes away.

Thats pretty good mileage. I recently went on a 1200 km trip through the mountains and was getting 22mpg with my new motor. I also dont have overdrive and was spinning 3000rpm. I was pretty happy. Still not as good as you though.

I would kill for even half that, lol

My car gets roughly 8-10 mpg in town here. I don't do any highway driving, so that doesn't really apply...

the fisrt 1/4 tank I can get about 200 miles aout of the remaining 3/4 I get about 180 = 21-23 mpg. That is all city driving and being at WOT about 3-4 times a day.

Right now she does really well. sittin' in the garage with out a radiator been waitin' on a new one to come in.

it suprised the heck out of me

only way it pulls over 21 is if i never go over 80, normal highway driving and stepping on it to abotu a hundred once in a while it gets about 20, so still not to bad
