First, don't smoke in your car. Next, TRY to find out WHERE the smell is coming from. It could be a lose gas line, filter, hole in your tank, etc.

A very common problem is the gas filler neck. On many F-body cars, there was a recall on it. Depending on the car model, when it was made, etc, it MAY be covered by warranty.

But try to figure out where the smell is the strongest. If it is the rear, check out the gas filler neck.

Just something simple if you haven't already

problem and a new cap stopped the smell

i found the leak, it was the bolt that conected the gas line into the carborator was lose because the gasket was worn away. it was pretty simple to fix. only cost 20cents of a new gasket and took 10mins. so it was nothing major.
thanks for the info though

Glad to hear that you found it and good thing too. Leaking gas around the engine is not a good thing.
