Broken Alternator mount..help

As you can see from the picture, the ally engine piece that the alternator mounts to snapped off. (Due to a non standard replacement alt. that obviously put a lot of strain on the bracket, hence snapping it. FYI, the non std. alt. was fitted by a breakdown truck a million miles from home, and it got home, then this happened).

Questions : Can the broken piece be reliable if welded back on?

If not, what is the name/part number, of the whole piece that needs to be replaced.

p.s. Being in the UK, it's very unlikely that the few junk yards we have will allow that piece to be removed from a donor motor. They're generally all sold as a complete second hand engine unit.

It's an '89 305 TBI LO3 Camaro. (And no, I don't want to swap the motor )
Thanks.

instead of trying to weld the broken piece back on i'd build the piece back up out of all weld metal and then drill a new hole. if that isn't what you'd like then the broken piece can be welded back on, id fit the piece and tack it on each side then grind a groove in one side and weld it and repete for the other side. you'd want 100% pepetration or close to it, that's why i'd just build it up.

If time is available, search the classifieds...I see many ads that would have what you're looking for.

Ed's suggestion needs no further explanation, just an addendum. Since shipping the bracket off to him might be cost-prohibitive, you might try finding a place that specializes in boat propeller (screw) repairs. They usually have a lot of aluminum alloy experience, and replace entire missing blades just as Ed describes. If you really strike out on getting that repaired, try to get in touch with Si_Camaro in Nottingham. He seems to have a line on ThirdGen parts.
