Spare Tire Inflator???!!!?????
Spare Tire Inflator???!!!?????
Hello All,
The other day I got a flat and had to use the spare and found the weirdest thing the spare was folded into a pancake, like to fit in the car and I had a carbon dioxide canister that you used to inflate the spare, man it inflated the tire real quick like in seconds......anyway i am getting ready to go on a trip to OK and would like to refill this canister but no one knows what the hell I am talking about.......were can I get this filled or get a new one.......the dealer says this canister is no longer offered.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Pat

You might do a search as I recall this topic from the past. If I remember correctly, companies that fill fire extinguishers and so on can fill the canister. I have the so-called 1LE ten-spoke alum spare with canister, but I don't use it. Instead, I have a can of "flat-Fix."

you have a photo of that 1LE spare? I'd like to see one. thanks. I removed my spare and rely on fix-a-flat. I figure if the Z06 comes with no spare and a can of stuff, it will work for me!

This is not mine, but you can see what it's like. Check about halfway down the following thread:

Yep the lightweight spare. RPO code N64 I believe. I have mine sitting in the garage, never used it.

Doesn't the ZO6 also comes with 'Run-Flat' tires?
Either way fix-a-flat is better than nothing.

If you can't find a replacement cartridge, you could get a portable electric pump from a place like sears or target.
I have one from sears. It was about $40. I use it to keep the tire pressure up w/o going to a gas station. It should work well enough out on the open road if it were needed. It won't be as fast but its better than nothing.
You could even use a foot pump in a pinch.
And for those of you how never check the air in your spare. DO IT! A flat tire and a flat spare aren't fun.

It's true, only standard vettes get runflats. Goodyear has a much better tire called the F1-SC that they use on the Z06. The tires alone are worth a huge amount of grip.

i have 3 of those. I have an old A\C Delco one that is many years old that i use to fill my 7 gallon air tank. IT takes a good 20 min and it has no problems. I have never had any problem with any electric portable air compressor.

I had to bust out the spare for the first time (since '86!) yesterday, after my almost-new Kumhos picked up a nail. I used a $20 Campbell-Hausefeld compressor that I keep in my trunk. I dont' trust those air canisters, since one left me and my two-wheeler stranded five miles from pavement and ten miles from town.
That little compressor did the job, but it took about 15 minutes to pump up the spare. Not fun in a Home Depot parking lot on a 95 degree day.
According to the label on the canister, a welding supply shop or fire extiguisher shop can refill it. It's just CO2.
It is neat to watch the spare unfold itself, and then repack when it's done, but next time I get a flat, I'm calling AAA for a rollback truck.
As a Side note, Kumho 712 do a suprisingly good job with no air pressure.
