Still can't get good oil pressure is it time for a new pump?

well i still can't get good oil pressure. At WOT i can't get over 40 psi and at idle i can only get about 10 or 12. It's not the gauge cause i went out and bought a new one and it still tells me the same thing. And if so whats a good pump that would bolt right on and where can i find one at what price? Or have anyother ideas ideas a new pump cause my baby is goin thirsty.

how many miles on the engine? the low pressure could be due to excessive wear......

mileage is a good question......

my s10 beater gets about 50 when first started, but then stays around 30 psi. it does increase with engine load, but settles back down to about 25-30 psi. edit.. forgot to list the mileage on my truck, it's approximately 132k miles on a 2.5 4 cylinder

how are you measuring your oil pressure? the factory gauges aren't the greatest thing to measure. ideally, you would want to check the pressure with a known good mechanical gauge.. no wires to short and give you false readings.

Melling, standard volume is a good pump. You have one of 3 things going on, either the engine is so worn out you can't build pressure (doubtful) The pump is shot (maybe) or the pick up screen is partially blocked by debris in the pan. The last one happened to me, pieces of gaskets that had overhung inside the engine broke off and got down there, bits of silicone from the manifold ends broke off and made their way down in the opan and it all got sucked against the screen and caused my pressure to drop. Replaced the pump since I had the pan off anyway.

I would vote for the clogged oil pick-up, I've never seen a wore out oil pump, it's the most lubricated thing in the engine, People usually replace them in rebuilds cause it's cheap to do so.
