Crank/damper question

Hi...

Anyone knows this or could measure?

I need to know the distance from the center of the crank out to the damper. If you know what I mean?'

I want to make sure its correctly mounted............

the dampner bottoms out aginst the lower timing gear and then you tighten the crank bolt aginst the dampner. there is no measurement to check.

60-65 ft/lb for a regular small block Chevy.

That "hole" behind it that you are referring to is probably the inside of the timing cover. Having lots of oil in there is a good thing. Your timing set will thank you.

When you reassemble, make sure you apply a layer of clean grease or heavy oil to the balancer hub so you don't damage the seal in the timing cover when it slides past.

You might also want to get your hands on a 5-6" piece of 7/16" - 20 threaded rod and a mating nut to pull the damper hub back onto the crank. Using the crank bolt to pull the damper on can have disasterous consequences. Search the archives for "Stripped Crank Bolt" for the reasons. Hammering the balancer back on can also cause problems with the balancer, main bearings, and possibly the crank if you get it started worng.

OOPS! I just noticed your location. Good luck finding a piece of 7/16" - 20 threaded rod in Scandinavia. Then again, it might not be that difficult.

If you get into a bind and aren't in a real hurry, PM me with a mailing address and I can ship off a "kit". Parcels to Norway take about 8-10 days, so I'm guessing it would be about the same for Sweden.
