the car just....died

89rs with a lo3....I went to pick up a buddy and as Im sitting I his driveway I decide to turn on the AC.When I do that my radio turned off .I turned the AC off and the radio came back on.I figured I must have a wire to the radio hitting the AC switch.
He gets in the car and we get about a mile up the road and it just dies.We push it out of the road and I take a look.Lights work...radio works...I have electricity....yet when I try to start it, it wont even click. My sister happened to drive by so we used her truck to tow me to a gas station(just in case )but that didnt work either but I know it has gas in the tank.

Any ideas ?

The first one to implie a fuel pump gets a Greeko-Roman poke in the eye!

does the security light come on when ya try to start it? might be a vats related problem... maybe a bad neutral saftey switch... the whole ac radio thing is kinda weird... good luck maybe someone else has some ideas

Check the fuses and fusable links. IIRC there is a shared circuit somewhere.
Maybe Vader has one of his wiring diagrams somewhere to check.
You may want to quickly pull the climate control unit and make sure nothing is loose and catching wires from your head unit.

Thanx guys,ya'll got my brain gears turning......

Im beginning to wonder if I blew a fuse link.I'll check the fuses too.The question then becomes one of "why'd it blow?". You think maybe my AC/radio problem shorted something out?

I bet its the fusable link at the starter. I burned mine...I have assed the job and last week I went to go to work. All the sudden the radio said "SEE YEAH" and the car just died. Wouldn't do ANYTHING but the lights and stuff worked. It was the fusable link at the starter. Fixed it and it was fixed.

88camaro350,that sounds like my problem!I checked the fuses under the dash and they were ok.I dont have alot of free time(I work 60 hr weeks)so I'll have the shop check the fuse links.

There is a few on a distribution block right near the battery and a couple down on the starter wires. If you have factory manifolds and emissions stuff it will be hard to see from up top. Im pretty sure it is your fusable link on at the starter. Its an easy fix...hard to tell how much they will charge at a shop tho

Well, it wasnt the fuse link.It ended up being the battery/alternator (y'know how if one goes it takes the other with it).Apparently the alt went out and I started sucking juice from the battery until it died.I had enough power for the accesories but not to start/run it.I'll find out more later since my wife picked up the car and went straight to work.

Not always true...depends on how quickly you fix the problem. Ive had success with changing one or the other...never had to change them both at the same time..
