ATTEN: MASTER ENGINE BUILDERS AND BUFFS!
ATTEN: MASTER ENGINE BUILDERS AND BUFFS!
I have several q's reguarding the engine I plan on putting in a 1991 GTA. Here's my plan:
1) Balanced 383 w/aluminum block plus forged pistons and rods.
2) 1000 cfm TPI intake, runners, and plenum.
3) ProCharger D Series w/3 core intercooler,
4) Custom burned chip,
5) MSD ignition,
6) Custom built 700R4 (I want overdrive for crusing),
My q's are:
1) What should my optimum compression ratio and boot pressure be??? I was thinking 8:1 w/15 lb boost??
2) What heads should I use??
3) What size cam and rockers, obviously rollers though...
4) What Injectors should I use??
5) Who can burn me the best chip??
6) What gears should I use, I don't want 4.11's, I was thinking 3.23's or 3.73's.....
6) + what am I forgetting????
About what should this put out with your answers?? I'm looking for atleast 12's if not 11's here and keep in mind this is in
a 91 GTA so it is heavy and I would be willing to use a 50-100 hp shot of nos to get there if I have too................I am dead
serious about this and I don't think I know that much about engines to please help me out and no put downs,
Thank You

I'm assuming your aware that your describing a $15,000-$18,000 build. If your going to invest that kind of money, you may want to look at a big block build without the blower.
I have a 526 CID build coming up using a Donovan 10.200" deck aluminum BB. Dart Big Cheif CNC ported 18* heads and all the trick internal/externals. HP at 7500 is looking close to 850. It will run on 94 octane and still be somewhat streetable. Total cost for parts are about $16,000.
Food for thought....

The block will cost you around $5000 plus machine work. Heads are at least $1200, rotating assembly will be at least $1200, cam and valve train at least $1000,...... It adds up quick with this type of build and power levels. Then suspention work and drive train upgrades on top of that.
The 526 is going into '63 vette that's getting the frame stiffened, worked with cage, straight axle with a Strange 3rd member with coil overs, ...etc... The owner has about $5000 in that already. He has more money than he knows what to do with.
Might want to re-evaluate your wishes. Build yourself a stout 400/434 with an iron Bow-tie or Rocket block and ditch the blower. Save yourself about $6000. A 400 or 434 can be built to 600 streetable hp easily.
But then you still have to get it to hook up without breaking things.......
