Car smoking....

Ok my car puffs out quite a bit of white smoke when I start it cold. I figure that my valve seals, but I have a problem with overheating when I sit in traffic for extended periods in hot weather, I can fix that by adding another fan, but it also smokes quite a bit when the temp gets to like 230 or so and up. Anyone know why its doing this? I'm really hoping its not a head gasket but I haven't ruled it out yet.....

it might could be a bad thermostat, fan switch, coolant temp sensor.

do you have enough fluids, the right mixture of fuilds.

Valve seats are usually what causes smoke on startup. Fuel mixture can also play a role. Mine does it a little, but it is fuel vapor from the engine being cold and no choke on my Holley. As far as your overheating that can cause the engine to have many problems with how it runs and how much oil leaks around the valves. Can also cause the idle speed to increase. If it gets too hot you can blow the head gaskets. The best way to cool your engine down is to get an aluminum radiator, make sure the thermastat is new. (make sure to drill two small bleed holes)(helps keep it purged of air bubbles and such). Make sure the electric fan sensor is working properly and make sure the antifreeze mixture is correct. The aluminum radiator will make a great difference, trust me. They dont cost much. Napa has them for $130 or 140. Can't remember. Modine Brand

My fan switch isn't even a concern, have an aftermarket fan wired into fuse block,

"but it also smokes quite a bit when the temp gets to like 230 or so and up." Are you saying when the engine is running it smokes quite a bit 230 and above, or is it still just when you start it 230 and above?
