Choke light on in the 84' after I swapped back to CC Quadrajet....
Any ideas on this???? The wire is hooked up, and the choke functioned properly before with the old CC carb....but I went to the boneyard and got a newer looking one, cleaned it up real nice and stuck it on.
Not quite sure why the choke is not functioning properly though....everything else is running properly with no Check engine lights.
If I use a test light, I should see positive current through the choke wire connection, right???
Let me know what you guys think or if it's a common problem associated with these carbs...

Could be an open choke coil. Measure the resistance between the choke terminal(s) and ground.

i cant recall the specifics, but there is a connection with the alternator and the choke light.

Hopefully it is just the relay!
It was both the relay and alternator on my 86

Why GM didn't make the alternator going bad send some sort of signal to the voltage meter is beyond me.

Yes, it is one of those very strange GM engineering choices. There is a little relay under the dash, in front of where your right knee is, inside a plastic box with a couple others. It looks like a tall signal light flasher. When it is starting to go on the fritz it sends out the "Choke" alarm on the idiot light, and also makes a tick-tick sound. It can mean either the relay is going bad (about $10 to replace) or the alternator is on the way out.

Yes, it was a sort of pea green colour, if I recall correctly. Same size as a larger signal light flasher. It made a racket like you describe when my alternator went south

330hp,
Did changing the relay help, or was the alternator the problem?
Bring us up to speed.

When it was making the noise in the first place when I yanked the relay out, I think the alternator was no good.
