would this combo work well?

has anyone taken a look at the new 383 truck engine? 415lb/ft at 3500rpm and 325hp at 4500rpm... i dont really like having to rev my engine to 4500 or 5k everytime i want to go fast, so would this engine work well for an everyday driver? i was thinking of that and a T5 or T56 tranny(bout to make some big investments ), so even in overdrive, there would be plenty of low end grunt. what do you guys think? are there any downsides to having massive torque so low in the power band?

You'll definitely be able to light you tires up at will and should get some good 60' times if you can hook it up.

A T-5 may have problems with all that torque but a T-56 shouldn't.

That engine also has a steel crank and uses the same block (from what I have read) as the Fastburn 385HP/350ci. If you swapped the heads for Fastburns and put in the LT-4 Hot Cam kit, you'd have an engine cable of exceeding the ZZ430. Lots of potential should you decide to want more power.

Though the block is a 1 piece rear seal unit, it appears that GM may be using an adapter for the crank (2 piece seal unit???). But this information is all sketchy and I am still trying to find out myself.

Oh yeah, the crank is actually a 3.80" with a 4.00" bore (actual displacement 382ci). So you can get even more cubic inches in the future with a .030" overbore (388ci).
