tbi idle or lack thereof

I can't get my car to run right and it's tickin' me off. Here's the deal: I start the car and bam, the idle fluctuates from 250-1000, I give it 1/2 to full throttle, and nothing, just sounds as if it's choked out. Finally, I get a good idle, blow the cobs out and all is well then on. Car is a little jerky taking off as well. This "problem" seems to occur more in wet or damp/humid weather as well. Mechanic cleaned (or says he did) fuel lines and throttle body. Says he did a computer diagnostic (which I highly doubt)and said there were no error codes
. I'm pretty good swingin' a wrench, but I have no garage here in TX. I'm fed up with my mechanic too. What do ya'll think is the problem? If it's gonna get fixed the hit and miss way, I'd rather do it on my own in a parking lot. Also, how can I get codes myself off my computer? (I've changed the chip from stock to hypertech and back to stock, so I know how to pull the unit itself) I think I may have an intake gasket leak, what do ya'll think?

Here is the Tech article.

Check for vacuum leaks by spraying around the area with starter fluid. Pull and clean your IAC. You can see if you're throwing codes by your SES light being on; you can pull them by jumpering the ALDL as described in the above article. Check the tech articles and look at your voltage for the TPS. Have you done a complete tune-up?

It's your "Idle Air Control," which controls the amount of air that bypasses the bores of your throttle body, giving you your idle. If the motor is going out, or it's dirty and sticking it may not be opening or closing the correct amount giving you a crappy idle. You can find the tech article for resetting it at: https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/tpimod2.shtml to set it once you have pulled and cleaned it. It's cleaned with carb cleaner and nylon tooth brush easily and reset by the instructions in that article. Hopefully you have a manual that will show you where it's located - if not email me and I'll either scan in a photo or mod one of my pix to point it out.
