305 heads cast # 434

Hey, I can buy a set of these heads for very cheap and Im just wondering from people who know about these heads and 305 heads in general, if they are in the line of the 416 and 601 cast heads, performance wise?

Are they worth porting and polishing and so on?

Mortec info is below:
354434.....75-79...262/267/305...60cc chambers

Any help is appreciated

port/polish cut for 1.94 intake valves or swap while I rebuild my 416's?

PS I plan on building my 416's anyways.

Probabily not the same. Even the 601's are not the same as 416's. ( 305HO heads)

But, they can be improved.

Plan on doing some heavy hogging......

What size are the valves in them?

Not sure on the valve size the guy selling didn't know a whole lot about them, im pretty sure there stock so 1.72 or at best 1.84's

I knew they would need some serious porting, I was just wondering if they worth the effort (casting worthy) or if I should be looking for a diff casting core?

For a 305 head I'd hold out for a set of 416's or 081's.

Just about every Z or TA with a carbed or TPI 305 has 'em.

There are lots of these cars in the wreckers.

Not worth paying a lot of money for any of these heads
as there is other, better stuff.

Unless you can pull off the whole job for less than aftermarket stuff,,,, the aftermarket stuff is better.

have to keep it in perspective $$$$ wise.

Well the guy only wants $100obo CAN for the 434's, and I figured I could practice my dremel skills and swap with my heads (416's) so I can work on them and not have down time.

Or should I hold out for a cheap set of 416's and practice and swap those?

Thanks for the info so far.

That much "practice" is not nessessary.
Any old scrap chevy head and 1/2 hr will do to "practice"
This is not brain surgery.
You're doubleing the cost by doing two sets.
Might as well just buy a set of new vortec heads and a manifold.

Not worth $100 Maybe $30 .....I'd pass.
