Removing Wire Loom

Removing Wire Loom

Looks like I need to get into the loom that goes from the starter and up around the front of the engine, and then back to the firewall. Can I remove it somehow? I think it is held on by a bracket near the starter. My goal is to inspect the wires inside the loom to see if any have melted during my last electrical problem.

There is a slit in the loom near the distributor, where a wire feeds into it, and I can see the wires inside, and they look OK from the outside, so I almost don't want to bother removing the loom, but...


Also, how can I get a schematic to see where the red wires go from the starter ? No luck at my local Pontiac dealer or the library.

First, before you go poking around in the wire harness, and especially if you feel there may be damage, disconnect teh battery.

Second, most of the plastic conduits used on the factory wire harness are slit along their length. You should be able to open the conduits almosat anywhre and inspect the individual wires.
