Is my alternator going out?
Hey Guys
I went to take my girlfriend home last night....and earlier during the night, I noticed my dash lights and interior lights getting dim...I looked at my battery guage and it looked ok...well..later during the night, while I took my girlfriend home, the lights almost went completely out...then my engine quit....everything quit and the battery guage was in the red zone. I had to coast to a stop and walk about a 1/2 mile to a gas station. My brother jumped my Camaro but we had to jump it 3 times to make it home because it kept loosing power. I put it on the battery charging and started it, let it run for about 1 minute...and there we go again....the guage dropped and my car shut off and everything is dead. That battery is only about 8 month old. So...I thought maybe the alternator might be going bad. Any thoughts?? I just know I need to fix this problem....

Sound like you have a bad alternator bud. There are two ways to tell for sure, the first is take it off and take it to your local parts store, they should be able to test it. You can also charge the battery and start the car, then test the voltage on your battery with the car running. Voltage I believe should be 13-14 volts. If its low, your alternator is shot. But personally I say its gone man.
BTW, thats a sweet Z you got there!!!!

change your belt too, a slipping belt will keep the alternator from cranking out enough amps
(edit)
nevermind, its a 91, it thought it was an 84 with v-belts
