Engine won't start
Engine won't start
Here is what happened:
I had a exhaust pipe fall off and caused a lot of wires to burn/melt on my car. Mostly the ones in the starter area.
I am at a friends house, so I couldn't replace all the wires at this time, and they weren't burnt through, just the insulation was burnt, so I covered them with electrical tape after seperating them. The knock sensor melted off, had to modify that to fit.
It appears the heat killed the starter, so we replaced that. Now here is what happens... it started a couple times but would die almost instantly, or would run for a few seconds (max of 30 once). Now the car won't start, it will try and start for a second, then it will just turn over again and again. It smells like gas under the hood, plus the fuel pump is turning on (it is hecka loud) There is spark, and we replaced the coil w/ a couple other spares and it still didn't make a difference. That is the first problem.
Now the second problem
the starter only works one out of about 30 tries. What happens is that it just clicks. Nothing else. The voltage at the starter is 12 volts, the voltage at the purple wire is 6 volts when we hold the key on and the starter doesn't engage. The car is dead cold, so it isn't heat soak. The car used to do it once and awhile, but it wasn't this bad...
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Douglas
