How many of you have 5 speeds
I have only seen 1 5 speed in my whole life close up. I have seen an awful lot on this board. Did most of you guys change to a 5 speed? I see a 5 speed in my future. Thank you Kevin.

) I spent about 8 months of my life trying to find an 88-90 IROC TPI with a 5 speed. I was EXTREMELY close to giving up when a couple days before my birthday I got a message on my machine saying that " I do indeed have a 5 speed TPI with many mods.." Many peple say that those car arent rare but In America, ot Canada, those cars are VERY hard to find.

Add me to the list of the "haves"... mine came with one, I later put the one out of Matt98SS's 91 1LE in it...
They don't seem that rare, at least not in the earlier (carb) cars.

mine came stock also. 1988 was the first year they put the World Class T-5 transmissions into the f-body cars so if your going to get one get at least a 88 or newer T-5, they are stronger. If I was you, I would spend the extra money and go ahead and stick a 6 speed in the car from a wreck 93-97 f-body (non LS1 motor car) b/c a lot of us are wanting the 6-speeds now and we already have 5-speeds. THe 93 cars had a 0.80 5th and a 0.62 6th and the 94+ cars had a 0.75 5th and a 0.50 6th! The 94+ 6th gears are definetly made for fuel economy only but will allow you to run a low gear in the rear without effecting the gas mileage too much. While my 5th gear won't acclerate that fast my motor will still pull in 5th gear and peg the 145 limit of the speedo. It's your choice and driving style that will affect the tranny you want.
THe special 5th gear "theformula" was talking about is the 0.75 gear ratio instead of the 0.63 ratio. This came only in the TPI cars and would allow you to reach top end much faster. Unless you have a heavily modified engine the common 0.63 ratio 5th gear will be useless for performance but will still allow top speed runs and you can use lower rear gears and go off on long interstate cruises. The 0.75 would be a nice 5th gear with a taller rear gear of say a 3.23.
