How strong is an L98 Bottom End?

How strong is an L98 Bottom End?
I've always wondered, anyone have an idea of how many HP and rpm it can support? Don't hear about them breaking very often.

ive wondered this alot in my head too. In addition to that question what are the components made out of that make up the rotating assembly in an l98?

I know a mechanic that pulled a stock 350 out of a junk yard with over 150,000 on it and reved it to 8000 with no problems. The 350 is a naturally balanced engine, so it can rev to much higher rpm's than most. You'd be surprised at how much it can take.

I think the consensus is a SBC with a cast crank is good for 450HP??, IIRC..doesn't really matter if it's an L98, etc...2bolt block w/cast crank is what to look at.

TRAXION is running a stock bottom end from a l98 and he's running 11's I think.
I talked to him down at the Nationals and he said its a totally stock bottom end and he spins it to 6700rpm all day long at the track. Said hes running the stock 700r4 to with sticky tires

Stock 350. Never pulled. Never rebuilt. Spin it to 6700. HOWEVER, I wouldn't say that I do this all day long
I think that the Fluidampr balancer and the oil changes every 1000 miles have helped. I have no REAL idea why my 700R4 is still alive except for the fact that I am doing everything possible to keep the fluid cool. Extra Deep pan with cooling tubes, auxiliary cooler, auxiliary filter, etc.
I don't officially have 11's yet. My lowest timeslip is 12.2@112 .... but that was 2 years ago. I need to get back to the track with the new combo.

There was an article in a magazine(cant remember which one though) where they took a stock L98 TPI out of a junk yard and put NOS on it to see how much they could beat it before it blew. If I remember correctly they got it to around 600hp before it came apart. Now that was just Dyno tests but it goes to show that the whole assembly is fairly decent.
Yea, I remeber that article. It was like Super Chevy or Chevy High Performance. I am a strong believer in the L98 block, mine has a few over 200,000 miles and still working great. No rebuild, no nothing(waiting to finish my carb swap though)
