Arching from Sparkplug shields

I currently replaced my old worn and some melted spark plug wires. Some were burnt from the exhaust mainfold leaking. Since replacing them, i got a loss of power and a vibration at idle. I saw that there was arching from the metal shields to the block and removed them. The car runs better now, but is this safe? Is there anyway to use the shields without having this arching problem? Any help is appreciated

sounds like you bought a set of cheap wires, new wires shouldn't arc. the shields are there to keep heat off the wires.
