true... you just have to block off one of the coolant passages since LT1's have reverse cooling. If you bolt it on, it will dump coolant righ into the oil valey and then you got problems.

also, there are some bolt holes that need to be moddified i belive... not 100%

 

i was under the probable false impression that it did not have the coolant ports in the right location, so in order to make them work youd have to somehow impossibly drill out the port holes in the correct location.....but then again, you can make lt1 manifolds work, so maybe lt1 heads CAN work.

I have a theory. Bolt on some L31 Vortecs. It would take a lot less work and they're based on the LT1 casting.

 

It has been done...but I agree to bolt on the Vortecs...much better deal...bolt on and go for the same approx. power potential.

 

Yes, it can be done. Search the web. I found a page with photos, specific instructions, and details. I just can't find the link I thought I had bookmarked.

Plugs need to be welded into and machined flat on the deck side of the head in a couple of coolant passages. A steam line needs to be installed at the rear of the heads. Beyond that, the swap was fairly straightforward.

 

IIRC, tpi_roc has done this already, even had pic's showing what he did.

Seemed like a lotta work/expense..but to each his own.

well im not doing it, i was asking because my friend said he was going to , and i didnt know if it would be done or not....

 

yeah it sounds like its just too much work to modify them, a good set of aftermarket aluminum heads woud be alot easier to setup, but more expensive to buy.

 

Bernie's busy collecting 3rd gens. He has two GTA verts and a t-top Trans Am. I am so jealous of him.........
