With the valve, spring & retainer installed,
use one pushrod of known length...preferably on the short side of stock length.
Get the cam over to the base circle.
One way is to crank the engine over by hand until the #1 exhaust valve just starts to open (with a rocker-arm installed),
then you would use the pushrod checker on the intake side of #1 cylinder.
Another way is to turn the crank to the (Compression) TDC mark and use the pushrod checker on the #1 intake side.
Stick the checker on the stud and then use a feeler gauge to test the length between the checker and the short pushrod.
Get a rod with the new longer length (old + feeler gauge reading) and install a roller rocker @ zero clearance and with a thin dab of antiseize on the roller tip that contacts the valve-tip.
Turn the engine over by hand so as to go through one rocker arm lift cycle so you can check the contact area on the valve-tip as left by the antiseize.
