L69 motor questions
L69 motor questions
Okay...So I've got this L69 I'm about to swap into my Camaro.
Here's my question(s). The engine is strong, doesn't need a
rebuild or anything. So what I am gonna do is slap a CompCams 268H cam, Weiand X-CELerator intake, Edelbrock Performer 600cfm carb, and shorty headers on it.
This is a motor from a 1984 Camaro Z28.
So, would those parts work well together and be compatable
with the motor?
I've never used nitrous or been in a car with nitrous, so I was
thinking of getting a cheap nitrous kit (any ideas?) and hooking
it up. What would be the largest shot this motor could handle?
75? 100?
I want to rig it up like in the movies; flip a toggle to turn the
nitrous on followed by a push button to actually make it go into the motor.
Sounds stupid, but it's just for fun.
Thanks ya'll.

Cam, okay. Headers, sure.
The intake & carb (and distributor that you'll need) are a sure receipe for going slower than the stock intake, carb, and distributor would do for you.
Why people think an aftermarket carb that is smaller than the stock carb will make you go faster is beyond me. To say nothing about losing knock sensor function.
Spend the money you don't waste on aftermarket carb & intake (and non-CC distributor) on coil and ignition module upgrades. And dual-snorkel air cleaner if you don't get the one that comes with the L69.

Some builders keep forgetting that the stock quadrajet's found on the 3rd generation 305's.... actually displaced cfm ranging between 795-850.
This is why a lot of builders throw on a Carter/Edelbrock 600-650, and then are depressed about their performance level....

Well said!
Had no clue that the stock Quadra-jet put out that many
CFMs. I've got the Edlebrock 600cfm carb sitting in my
garage. It's off the old LG4 motor that was in my 86 Sport
Coupe.
Ah well...Just add that Edelbrock to the collection I guess.
Why is the dual snorkel thing so great?
I have it, I just assumed that an open
air filter would be better?

Well, that's not completely true.
But,
The dual snorkel feeds the engine cooler air than the open element will. I did some back-to-back comparison runs on the '57 this past Thursday, the cool-air intake was worth a tenth in the quarter and 2 hundreths in 60' vs. the open element.

People 'rant and rave' about Edelbock's, Carter's.... and even Holley's, but it's the quadrajet's that are the most expensive in the majority of the aftermarket catalogs (this goes for the non-smog ones as well).
I'm one of those who prefer them....
