Replacing head in a 305 TPI

ok i wanna replace the factory heads i got with some new aluminum heads. I know it will give me more power and everything. Is they a certain type of thing i have to look for because i know about vortec and its really new and wont work with the TPI. Was tghere a standard back in the 86 intake manifolds that were all compatible with the same size ones?

Actually.... the aluminum heads are just a lot more lighter to that of you're stocker's, and are probably better for the power-to-weight advantage (when I installed a set that matched my iron heads in every way, they did nothing to boost HP at all.... but they sure did look sweet though).

If you are maintaining you're original 86 TPI, then you must get heads for the 86-Earlier styled intake manifold (avoid centerbolt, 87-Up).

Just curious.... is you're budget limited? You could very well go with the Vortec heads if you'd like, as I believe there is an aftermarket TPI manifold that corresponds with the different bolt pattern.

Yeah... it's an Edelbrock piece. It'd be a nice combo between the Vortec heads, and this TPI manifold, but again, it's all based on budget (but the Vortecs are pretty cheap though).

well i'd like to ut vortec on there becuase they are supposed to give you more power. But.... i also heard that the original manifold wont fit on it. I'm not oo much of a fan getting them other new ones because i could go out and get me a used LT1 or even an LS1 for less than $2500. I know this place http://tacreationusa.com and they have everything. But i need to know what kinda stuff is required to fit the heads on propperly. I mean i know i have regular bolt on style, and a 64cc chamber, just dont quite know what else to look for. If you have any suggestion of the exact model to get please tell me.

A 64cc chamber is going to cost you some compression, since your stock iron heads should be 58cc chambers.

If you have a 1986 305 TPI engine, you should have 14014416 cylinder head castings. The nominal combustion chamber volume of those heads is 58cc, not 64cc. 64cc is a common aftermarket chamber size for 350 engines.

You can verify that by checking the casting number(s) and searching the data at www.mortec.com .
