Liquid Gasket Maker?

I have some Ultra Blue RTV Gasket Maker, and it says it can be used for oil pan gaskets. Has anyone ever tried this, I have a oil leak from under the timing cover, and I have my engine out right now. I just wondering if I should get an oil pan gasket, or use the gasket maker. The oil pan gasket is fatter than most, which concerns me also.

Thanks,
Alan

you should get either the expensive 1 piece gasket or the cheap but what id rather yse 4 piece (two sides, front n back seal) and use the gasket maker around the edges of the front n rear seal since that is where they are known to work.

that combo worked best for me and alot of other peoples around here.

Thanks,
Do you know of any places where you can get a 4 piece seal? And I think that's where mine is leaking but it is just a thick 1 piece.

Thats whats on my '79 350's oil pan. Haven't ever had a leaking problem.

I use it on almost everything and never have a problem... its on my pan, valve covers, intake (as well as real gaskets), EGR block-off plate.... I love the stuff, lol.

you can go to autozone/advanced auto parts to get one, they are nothing fancy.

make sure its for whatever side for your oil dipstick tube as well.

I don't know about the one piece, for being more expensive, they aren't worth it in my eyes.

godspeed.
