Problem with trunk!!

I have this annoying problem with my car's (-87 GTA) trunk. When I turn the key in trunk's lock, trunk's "motor" pushes 'door' 3cm higher and lock opens. When I close 'door' it goes lock and that "motor" should pull 'door' in but it often stays up. So it's like locked but not fully closed. It used to go in on its own after 1-10hours but now it has been "not fully closed" for 2 days. I checked the wires and all should be ok, but still.. it doesn't work properly. HELP!!

-problem solved 20.11.00- I cleaned every part from that mechanism. I don't know was it stuck because of dirty parts but it seemed to help.

My guess is your hatch is putting enough weight on the latch to prevent it from coming up fully. Until the latch is in the full up position it won't retract. Next time you open it, look in the latch and press the small button in there. You'll know you have the right one when the motor starts moving the latch. Once the latch is fully up it'll stop on its own and be ready to pull the hatch down. Second possibility: The motor assembly is really dirty and just doesn't have the strength to pull the hatch down. If the first suggestion got you nowhere, try putting some pressure on the hatch to help the motor pull it down.

It wouldn't hurt to always give the hatch motor a little help. As notoriously weak those plastic gears are, the less work they have to do the better.
