jumpy Tach on my 88 TPI...

Hey guys...

I just got my car back from the shop (starter wiring problem), and drove it for a few days. This morning I got in it, and fired it up to warm it up. I let it idle for a while, and came back outside and took off to go to work. As I got on the highway, I set the cruize at 61-62 mph. I looked at the tach, and every once in while, it would jump up like 50-150 rpms. No difference in the engine speed/exhaust tone, and I am at a loss. Anybody have any ideas?

thanks a ton in advance!

Zach,

Time to start looking at connections at the distributor. Make sure the wire on the "TACH" terminal at the distributor is solidly connected and the ignition primary wires are not routed too closely to the ignition coil. GM had a TSB on this problem and recommeded moving the wiring as far away from the coil as possible.
