Kermit,

Does the friendly little yellow VATS light stay on or flash when you try cranking the engine?

Is the transmission in PARK? If so, try it in NEUTRAL.

Is the steering whell tilted all the way to the lowest position? The sector mechanism on the ignition switch linkage can wear so that the switch is not pulled far enough to engage the starter. Sometimes adjusting to the lowest position can take up a little slack in the linkage.

Is the solenoid functioning? If you used the remote to engage the solenoid, it should be O.K. You can also check fuses and fusible links.
