timing chain-TDC-rotor
I was in the process of putting a timing chain on my 1992 z28 with 5.7 TPI and turned the motor by hand to TDC. When I removed the dist. cap the rotor was not pointing to #1 cylinder, it was pointing toward the drivers seat. Anyone know what the deal is?
on exhaust stroke not compression stroke, you want TDC, both valves closed and rotor at #1. when you install the chanin and gear set put them in dot to dot then rotate one time till both dots are straight up and set distributor and rotor to point to #1 post on the cap, or you can make any post the #1 post and connect plug wires accordingly

When you line up the timing gears dot to dot the engine is on the exhaust stroke, not the compression stroke. You will need to rotate the engine one full turn, then drop in the distributor, pointing the rotor to the # 1 tower.
